Frederike Julie Lisiewski (German, 1772 – 1856): Self-portrait (1793) (via Dorotheum)
This painting was sold by Sotheby’s earlier this year for £ 6,875 (about €9,200) and it’s now going up again. The estimate is €15,000-20,000 this time.
From the auction house website:
Friederike Lisiewski was a member of an important
family of artists and one of the daughters of Christoph Friedrich
Lisiewski, a court painter in Dessau and Ludwigslust. Having received a
bursary from the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, she went to Berlin, where
she became a student of Christian Bernhard Rode in 1792. In 1793 she
was admitted to the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts. Until 1810 and again
between 1838 and 1840 she took part in the Berlin Academy’s exhibitions.
Another self-portrait by Friederike Julie Lisiewski, which she painted
in 1820, is conserved at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg.
